A Mineral is a naturally occuring, inorganic solid with an orderly internal arrangments of atoms (called crystalline structure) and a definent, but sometimes variable chemical composition.

Hawaii's most common minerals: Olivine and Marine Calcite.

Crystallization:
Slow cooling - large crystals - course
Fast Cooling - smaller crystals - smooth

"The higher the silica content the more explosive the volcano."

Four types of Lava Flows:
1 Pa hoe hoe (smooth fairly fast)
2 A'A (jagged, think & slow)
3 Block (thick & Slow)
4 Pillow (underwater)

Metomorphic Rock Is a rock that has undergone change in pressure and/or temperature.
